Welcome to Big Rock Sudbury School!
The school admits students between the ages of 4 years, 9 months and 16 years. Students may enroll at any time during the school year. Big Rock Sudbury School welcomes racial and ethnic diversity and families of every composition.
Our Admissions Process
The admissions process consists of the following steps:
- We recommend that you familiarize yourself with our school and the Sudbury philosophy by reading the material and articles on our web site, and/or our brochure and flyers. There is also a wealth of printed material available at Sudbury Valley School's web site. All text that we publish is posted on our web site. Note that any of our documents are available by postal mail, by request.
- You can meet the staff and take a tour of the site at one of our regular Open Houses. You can also talk with staff by phone (even during summer, we check messages and will return your call) and e-mail.
- If you decide that you are seriously interested, students may schedule a Visiting Week at any point during the school year. You can download the required Visiting Week paperwork here. All paperwork must be completed, signed and submitted with a check for the non-refundable $125 fee before the student may attend.
- On completion of the Visiting Week, the Admissions Clerk will schedule a pre-enrollment interview with the family to answer any questions and discuss any issues that may have arisen out of the visiting week. If there are no major concerns, the student may enroll.
- The family may also begin the enrollment process directly, without the student attending a Visiting Week. If enrolling directly, an interview must be scheduled with the Admissions Clerk's office (call the school office at the number below).
- Once the decision is made for the student to enroll, the family will need to complete and submit enrollment forms and fees. Enrollment paperwork can be downloaded here. Once all paperwork is completed, signed and submitted along with a check covering a $55 processing fee (if applying for tuition assistance), the $500 enrollment deposit, and the first month's tuition payment (if paying monthly - the Admissions Clerk will inform you of the amount), the student may begin attendance immediately.
- With the first day of attendance, a 20-school-day provisional enrollment period begins. This is similar to a money-back-guarantee - if during this period you or the school find that the school is unlikely to meet the student’s needs and expectations, you may withdraw and receive a full refund of tuition minus a fee equal to your adjusted daily tuition rate times the number of days attended.
- All details about the admissions/enrollment process and policies are contained in the Big Rock Sudbury School Family Handbook, which will be provided to each enrolling family.
Tuition
Big Rock Sudbury School strives to be affordable to every family. Apart from paying the full annual tuition of $11,858 you can choose to participate in our Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), under which, if you qualify, your tuition may be reduced to as low as $3,630 annually. We also offer substantial sibling discounts. You may pay the full sum in advance (and avoid paying an 8% finance charge), or use our monthly payment option. A limited number of part-time enrollments are available.
TAP - How does it work?
Our Tuition Assistance Program is modeled after the Federal Student Aid Program (FAFSA). If you decide to participate in this program, you must fill in a financial data form and submit it along with copies of your most recent IRS-1040 and W-2s for evaluation. The tuition clerk will determine an amount of tuition that you can afford to pay, according to formulas based on those used by the FAFSA. Your financial information is kept strictly confidential. Participation is not limited. Sibling discounts and part-time enrollments can further reduce your payment per student. You may also qualify for additional financial aid through third-party scholarships such as The BASIC Fund.
